Galloway has an excellent network of quiet, rural roads to discover. Enjoy a few days of stress free touring; follow one of the signposted trails, or, invent one of your own. The area also offers a wide range of activities for the whole family to enjoy, be it visiting the local ice cream parlour, Cream O Galloway, the Coco Bean chocolate factory (Twynholm) or learning to kayak at Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken, you’ll be sure to find something to suit everyone’s tastes.

Local Area

The Gatehouse area and Dumfries and Galloway offer many exciting and beautiful cycle paths. You can go straight from your door here, or travel over to Dalbeattie and enjoy the 7Stanes cycling challenge. Whether it is road biking or off road biking you enjoy, there is something for everyone.

If fishing is your thing there are many places to go in our area. To fish on the local lochs, there are boat keys available at the local Spar shop in Gatehouse. Gatehouse and Kirkcudbright angling association can be contacted through their website, and Gorsebank fishery near Dalbeattie also has excellent ponds for Carp and Trout.

CREAM O’GALLOWAY

Set in the beautiful Galloway countryside, Cream o’ Galloway Visitor Centre offers a full day filled with deliciously good fun for visitors of all ages. Try your hand at making local ice cream and cheese, or why not enjoy one of the nature trails on offer?. Then round off your visit with a game of crazy golf and a delicious ice cream.

Galloway Activity Centre, on the banks of stunning Loch Ken, caters for families, groups and individuals, giving visitors the chance between short taster sessions, full day of activities, certified courses and instructor training under the professional guidance of their skilled team.

MILL ON THE FLEET

The Mill on the Fleet is a large exhibition centre in a restored 18th century cotton mill. It hosts an annual programme of temporary exhibitions on two floors, as well as core displays on the history and heritage of Gatehouse and the Fleet Valley. It includes activities for children; dressing up, a dolls house, and worksheets and other activities. The Gatehouse Tourist information centre is also based in the Mill.

GATEHOUSE OF FLEET

Gatehouse of Fleet is about 2 miles from Clauchan Holiday Cottages. It has four hotels where you can have lunch, or eat in the evening. The Murray Arms Hotel at the clock tower, or the Masonic Arms just past the Murray Arms, where pets are welcome. The Bank o Fleet is on the High Street and serves excellent food (pets are welcome there too) and the Ship Inn at the bottom of the town over the bridge. There is also Galloway Lodge (above the Spar) serving food all day. On Friday nights they host burger evenings, which are highly recommended and booking is advisable.

BLAINLOCH DEER PARK
